Who should register at the Welcome Centre?

Newcomers who are refugees, permanent residents, or who have work or study permits should make an appointment with the Welcome Centre.

What services are provided at the Welcome Centre?

  • Help with the school registration form
  • Help with school bus registration (if necessary)
  • Connection to our Settlement Worker(s) in School
  • English language assessment
  • Additional information and resources about School District 22

What should families bring to their appointment?

  • Your school-aged child(ren) for an English language assessment.
  • The required documentation for registration:
    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Proof of Status in Canada for both parent and child (e.g. Canadian passport, citizenship card, permanent resident card, birth certificate, work visa, study permit with acceptance letter from school, temporary resident permit, refugee protection claimant document)
    • Child’s BC Services Card
    • Proof of residence from the legal guardian that clearly identifies their name and current address (*at least two documents confirming residential address are required).

Acceptable Proof of Address in School Catchment Area. 

Bring one from the left-hand column and one from the right-hand column OR two from the right.

Government Issue ID:

  • BC Driver’s License
  • BC ID
  • BC Services Card

Preferred Proof of Residence:

  • Property Tax Statement
  • Bank Statement
  • Credit Card Statement
  • Purchase Agreement of Home
  • Rental Insurance
  • Municipal Utility Statement
  • Gas, Electric, Landline or Cable Bill
  • Current Tax Return, filed as a BC Resident
